DIY Kids Craft: No-Sew Heart Pillow

10/12/2020
by

Surprise your loved ones with a soft and comfy heart-shaped pillow that isn't knotted with threads, but love!

This heart pillow is one of the best art and craft projects for kids because it doesn’t require sewing. A few cuts and knots here and there is all that’s needed to create these squishy DIY pillows.

Your young teenager and kid can easily make this pillow to embellish their bedroom, or gift it to their friends, grandparents, or you!

What You’ll Need:

· Polar fleece fabric of 16”x50” (length x breadth)

· A pair of fabric-cutting scissors

· A pair of paper-cutting scissors

· Dressmaking pins

· Chopsticks

· Printer

· A3 or A4 size paper

· Tape

Note:

· We recommend using Polar fleece-knit fabric for the best results because it's incredibly soft to the touch, warm, and won't fray for a long time. Your kids can play around with different colors as their liking.

· Please don't waste the excessive fabric bits and cuts, instead, utilize them as pillow stuffing along with craft hobby fill stuffing.

· For a better understanding of the steps mentioned below, watch this video as you read!

Step-by-Step Directions:

1. Print the heart-shaped template at 100 percent on a single A3 size paper, or two horizontal A4 papers and tape them together to form a heart shape.

2. Cut out the heart shape along both lines using paper-cutting scissors and put the cut paper aside.

3. The fabric and fold it in half, place it over the template, and cut it along the template. You will have two pieces of heart-shaped fabric measuring 16”x 24”. These pieces will be used as the front and back cover.

4. Take the front piece of fabric and fold it in half so that the right sides of the fabric face each other. Repeat the same with the fabric piece for the back.

5. Take the exterior heart template and pin it on the folded fabric. Now cut the fabric along with the template shape.

6. Place the interior heart template at the center of the heart-shaped fabric cut using the exterior template in the above step and pin it using dressmaking pins. Cut small fringes on the area around the interior paper heart template. Make sure the fringes are equally spaced.

7. Remove the template and place the two fabric pieces together so that the wrong sides face each other.

8. Now tie the matching fringes on each side of the fabric together in knots and leave a 2 inches wide opening on the top for stuffing.

9. Fill the pillow with hobby stuffing through the opening and knot the leftover fringes together as well. Use the chopstick to push the filling further inside the pillow for better stuffing.

And it’s done! You deserve a pat on the back and this cuddly soft heart pillow, of course!

3 Crochet Tips You Didn’t Know

10/06/2020
by

If you’ve been watching crocheting tutorials on YouTube to give your crochet project the perfect finish, you’ve come to the right place. There’s a lot more to crocheting like a pro than just grabbing the right tools and looping over to lock the stitch. Finishing a crochet project requires the same care, attention to detail, and precision as it does to for stitching the first few foundation knots.

We’ve rounded up three tips to help you crochet like a pro!

Pick the Right Yarn

If you're new to crocheting, choosing mid-weight wool, cotton, or acrylic yarn would be the best option for you. You’ll find it easier to see the twists and turns in each stitch—something you can’t achieve with fancy and fuzzy yarns.

Also, make sure you pick a light solid color for your first time crocheting project. You can find it challenging to insert into the crocket hook with multicolor and dark yarns. After crushing your first few crochet projects, you can shift to any dark and dazzling color shade that you want to.

While shopping for the supplies, keep in mind that the crochet hook is equal or slightly larger than the yarn weight. As a good rule of thumb, it’s safe to go C/4.25 mm and J/6 mm, if you’re a starter.Weave In the Wobbly Ends

When you’re done with stitching the knots and chains, have a close look at your crochet and fasten any loose ends. There are several ways to do it, but the most effective one is as simple as weaving the loose end back on itself three to four times to secure it. But be extra careful when you block your last weave; snipping it can cause your yarn tails to stick out on the front side as you wear the fabric.

Always prune the tails after blocking the fabric.

Block Your Garment

Even if you’ve completed your crotchet in bits, blocking it can be an excellent idea for a superior finish. It will relax the yarn and easier to seam. All you have to do is, soak all your crotchet pieces in water for at least 20 minutes, take them out and squeeze out the water, lay them on a flat surface and allow to dry. Make sure you squeeze the fabric gently to avoid damaging the stitches.

Crocheting is a fun activity. It may be all about the tricks and technicalities, but the results ultimately depend on the quality of yarn used in the first place. Visit ArtCove, a reliable arts and crafts online store, to buy crochet supplies online. We’ll make sure you get the best quality product delivered at your doorstep, at an incredibly affordable price.

Crafting Through Corona: 3 Crafty Ideas to Spread Awareness about COVID-19 through Art

10/01/2020
by

During these gloomy and unprecedented times of the COVID-19 outbreak, art and craft have become the voice of comfort for many people.

Artists around the globe—including cartoonists, painters, sketch artists, illustrators, and graffitists—are exploring new and exciting ways to spread more awareness about protection against the deadly virus.

They are encouraging people to abide by the guidelines of social distancing to minimize the risk of exposure.

In this blog, we’ve rounded up three artistic ideas that you can use to play your part in making a difference and spreading hope and positivity.

A Comic Strip

Several cartoonists and illustrators are depicting their understanding of the current pandemic through their comic strips. Comic creators like Rohan Chakravarty from Nagpur and Nivya Kuriakose from the United States believe that this is the least they can do to educate people about social distancing during this time of chaos.

Chakravarty’s comic series, “Green Humor”, reflects how the destruction of animal habitat by human beings could be leading to a weakened immune system in animals, and thus easier transmission of the disease.

If you think you cannot do comics, grab your markers and paints and give it a try!

Sketching

If you're good at sketching, why not use your talent for the betterment of society? Through your sketches, you can show two types of people living in the United States. Those who respect the guidelines of social distancing and are practicing shelter in place whole-heartedly; and those who are going out, interacting with people, and not wearing masks. You can further depict how the latter group of people is endangering the lives of others, their families, and themselves.Painting

Illustration by David S. Goodsell. Source: https://pdb101.rcsb.org/sci-art/goodsell-gallery/c...

You can take inspiration from the paintings of David Goodsell from California. Professionally, he is a lecturer in computation biology and research and an artist. He had previously created molecular level paintings of Zika and Ebola, two of the deadliest epidemics.

In February, he released his incredible artwork on Twitter that showed the coronavirus in cross-section, which went viral in no time. His paintings for Ebola, Zika, and now COVID-19 have also been transformed into the form of coloring books that are used to educate children about the coronavirus.

Whether it’s designing a comic strip, creating a sketch, or making a painting, you can’t do any of it without the right supplies.

Keeping Calm and Reducing Stress with Crafts

09/26/2020
by

Life can be stressful. From career development to managing personal relationships, there are lots of variables involved that can make you anxious and overwhelmed.

Many people try engaging themselves in different types of activities like exercise, meditation, taking care of pets to ease their minds, but have you ever thought about crafts?Engaging in crafts can play a significant role in reducing stress and allow you to get in touch with your feelings. Here are five crafts that will help you keep a calm head:

Water coloring

Water coloring takes us back to childhood, the best part of our lives when our biggest problems used to be a broken crayon and dried up markers.

Water coloring allows us to take a break from a fast-paced, stressful lifestyle. It teaches us to slow down and discover our creativity.

It’s a relatively simple and straightforward activity but requires concentration and focus, which can help us escape the tension of our everyday lives.

Calligraphy

Calligraphy is a popular form of art and craft that is more than beautiful handwriting. It’s an art of writing to illustrate letters creatively and uniquely.

Calligraphic handwriting is an exciting and meaningful activity that has positive effects on stress reduction. It eliminates impatience and nurtures our spirit.

Moreover, if you become good at it, you can make money from it. People love the look of decorative writing and pay good money for designing wall arts, custom gifts, and more.

Knitting and crocheting

Don’t let the stereotypes like “knitting is for grandmas” keep you away from knitting and crocheting, especially if you want to keep calm and reduce your stress levels.

There are many stress-busting benefits of knitting and crocheting, including anxiety relief, depression relief, improved self-esteem, and more.

The coordinated hand movements and repetitive nature help strengthen neuropathways and unwind the mind from negative thoughts.

Design a postcard

When was the last time you sent a customized postcard to your loved ones? And yes, we’re not talking about the ones you sent on WhatsApp using a postcard generator app.

Designing a personalized postcard by hand helps build self-esteem and spark creativity, the two important traits that often get lost in tension and stress.

Decorating a postcard will give it an extra dimension and personality that will be appreciated by your loved ones and lead to healthier relationships.

Origami

Originated from Japan, origami is the art of paper folding into a sculpture without cutting, gluing, marking, or taping the paper.

The popular show Money Heist on Netflix shows the professor constructing origami to keep his cool when negotiating with the police, which perfectly describes its purpose.

Artfully folding the paper serves as a therapeutic and relaxation technique that boosts our brain health and trains our mind to let go of self-judgment and perfectionism

Knitted Beanie Designs For The Baby

04/15/2020
by

Congratulations, it’s a GIRL!

Some people wait to hear this news all their lives! Couples who are still trying for a child and haven’t heard the good news yet know the value of a child.

But if you’re one of those fortunate couples who are blessed with a little darling, make sure to celebrate the newcomer’s arrival the right way. The classic way is to shower your new baby girl with plenty of gifts

And when it comes to heartfelt gifts, no store-bought gifts can beat something that’s handmade. A knitted beanie cares for your baby with comfort and love. Since newborns have sensitive heads, they need a beanie covering their head all the time. What’s better than making something that they wear every day? Here are some beanie ideas.

Beanie With a Bow

There are numerous patterns of knitting that you can use while making a beanie for your baby. While a herringbone stitch is more common, there’s no rule stating that says that you can’t experiment with other, new patterns. In fact it’s more fun to try a pattern that’s more decorative when you’re not going to add more embellishments on the beanie.

If you don’t want to add sequins or play with color combinations, try going with a rib stitch pattern or seed stitch pattern. Once it’s done, all you’ll need is a tiny bow at the crown.

Nothing looks more endearing than a bright pink bow on a pastel pink beanie while your darling is wearing it while sleeping!

Beanie with a Bloom

Do you want to raise your little princess into a diva who was born to rock every style? Try this style of knitting a beanie and you’ll cry happy tears at how cute your baby looks.

Nothing looks more extravagant than a big knitted flower on the side of your baby’s beanie. You also have the creative freedom to use as many colors in your knitting project as you want.

While the same color looks equally good on a beanie, you can also try choosing a brighter shade for the flower to pop out.

Beanie with a Top Knot

This is by far the most classic style of baby hats and definitely the cutest one! Your little buddy can look like a small gift wrapped in their blanket with a beanie on their head. All you need is a knot on the top of the beanie. This design works best when kept simple and sober. However you can choose between the various knitting patterns. A seeded rib stitch pattern will work as well as a simple rib stitch one.

Next, you need to pick a color for your wool. Soft pinks, peach, powder blue and yellow are a few common choices for a newborn. But that doesn’t mean that a bright red won’t complement your baby’s blushing cheeks equally as well.

We’re an art and craft supplies online where you can buy crafts material like knitting needles and yarn in all colors. We have numerous other crafty decorative options as well that ensure your beanie designs stand out. Check out right here.
