Simple Origami Animals Kids Will Love

The ancient skill of folding paper, better known as origami, is returning. While the earliest examples of origami have been discovered in ancient China, with roots found in Japanese history, origami can also have a positive effect on students today.

Arts and crafts such as this creative form fascinate students while also subtly improving their abilities, such as spatial awareness, sequential reasoning, and logical thinking. Physics concepts can also be explained using origami. A thin bit of paper isn't particularly strong, yet it becomes so when folded into origami.

Dog's Face

You don't need many craft supplies for this activity. Start by placing the colored square paper in a diamond position on the table. Bring the top corner down to meet the bottom point, making a triangle. Now, repeat this step with the right and left points, making a smaller triangle, and then unfold to show a crease.

Now, you can fold down the right corner to create an ear and do the same with the left. Folding the bottom corner up will make the mouth, after which you can fold it back down for the tongue. Now, all that's left is to draw on the ears and nose and color the tongue!

Hands-on students were found to increase their thinking skills with origami. Children can use these talents to understand, classify, and develop their own language for the environment around them. You can embellish your origami with other craft materials such as acrylic beads for the eyes.

Butterfly

Begin by folding your craft paper in half and opening it back up to create a crease in the paper. Do the same, but this time in the opposite direction. And again, with both diagonals. Then, flip it so that the colored side of the paper is facing downwards.

Fold both sides the meet in the middle, then fold them in to create a triangle. Bring the top layers of both the points to the middle, then flip it and fold the bottom up. Finally, fold the triangle's corner over and make a crease. Finish the butterfly origami by folding it in half.
