Basic guide for choosing the proper wick

Bleached wicking
Tapers and votive candles - use small bleached wick
2" to 3" diameter - use medium bleached wick
3" to 4" diameter - use large bleached wick |
Wire wicking
Less than 2" diameter - use small wire wick
Votive candles - use small wire wick
2" to 3" diameter - use medium wire wick
4" diameter and over - use large wire wick |
Stearine (stearic acid)
Makes candle burn slower. Candle colors appear more opaque. Melt wax to 190
degrees Fahrenheit and add stearine. Use 2 tablespoons per 2 lbs. of
wax.
Translucent crystals
Helps raise melting point of wax and allows candle to burn slower. Colors
appear more vivid and also helps eliminate eliminate bubbles. These crystals are
particularly effective when embedding wax chunks or other items in the candle.
Use 1 tablespoon per 2 lbs. of wax.
Opaque crystals
This wax additive makes candle colors more opaque. Gives candles a high luster
finish and makes the wax harder. Helps eliminate blemishes in the candle. Good
to use when a pastel color is desired. Use
1 tablespoon per 2 lbs. of wax.
